Road cycling History

The dandy horse was the first human means of transport to use only two wheels in tandem and was invented by the German Baron Karl von Drais. the modern bicycle was introduced by Drais to the public in Mannheimin summer 1817. Its rider sat astride a wooden frame supported by two in-line wheels and pushed the vehicle along with his/her feet while steering the front wheel.

The first propelled 2-wheel vehicle may have been built by Kirkpatrick MacMillan, a Scottish blacksmith, in 1839, although the claim is open to dispute. He is also associated with the first recorded instance of a cycling traffic offence, when a Glasgow newspaper reported in 1842 an accident in which an anonymous "gentleman from Dumfries-shire... bestride a velocipede... of ingenious design" knocked over a little girl in Glasgow and was fined five shillings.

Introduction of racing and bicycle.

The first cycling race was a 1,200 meter race on May 31, 1868 at the Park of Saint-Cloud, Paris. It was won by James Moore who rode a bicycle with solid rubber tires. The first cycle race covering a distance between two cities was Paris–Rouen, also won by James Moore, who rode the 123 kilometers dividing both cities in 10 hours and 40 minutes.
The longest established bicycle racing club in the United States is the Century Road Club of America. Incorporated 1891 in Missourian now New Jersey. The club has sponsored races and timed distance events since its inception. Its members have included more national and Olympic medal holders than any other American club including Fred Spencer and John Howard.

A bicycle, also known as a bike, pushbike,[ pedal bike pedal cycle, or cycle, is a human-powered, pedal-driven, single-track vehicle, having two wheels attached to a frame, one behind the other. A person who rides a bicycle is called a bicyclist.
Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number about one billion worldwide, twice as many as automobiles. They are the principal means of transportation in many regions.
